Lake Plastira
Formed in 1959 with the completion of the dam at the southern tip of principle River Tavropos or Megdovas and the idea for the construction of assigned military and civilian Nicholas Plastiras in 1935 when he visited his hometown and there have been devastating floods in the region and Macedonia from continuous rains from which the best known name.
It contains 400 million cubic meters of water has a maximum length of 12 km maximum width of 4 km while the maximum depth is about 60 m and the maximum altitude is 750 m.The lake water is used to irrigate the surrounding areas but also for power generation through hydro, housed in the area.
In recent years there has been a large increase in tourism since been used in a very wide range of activities such as climbing,horseback riding, canoeing - kayaking, swimming, climbing, hiking, cycling and shooting.
The attractions in Lake Plastiras are many and the main ones are the Botanical Garden that gathers important floristic elements in the region, the forest Dryads village on the southeastern slopes of Pindos in altitude 950m.includes twenty wooden houses, the Waterfall Anthohori a point with lush vegetation and abundant water just above the windmill Anthohori Stefaniada Lake and just 2 km. the Monastery Cave is a small lake in an idyllic landscape.
All this contributes to the fact that the Lake Plastira one of the most beautiful destinations in Greece for all ages.
