Alonissos
Alonissos is the third biggest of the Sporades islands and it is about 2 nautical miles away from Skopelos. What makes Alonissos so special, compared to the other two islands -that is Skopelos and Skiathos- is the numerous scattered skerries and deserted islets all around, the flora and fauna of which are unique. This is the area where the first National Sea Park of Greece was established, with the aim of protecting the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus – Monachus). Alonissos is the ‘eco’-island of the Sporades, where the natural setting is really special and there are many opportunities for alternative and eco tourism activities. |
Map of the region |
The ancient name of Alonissos was Ikos, and later Achiliadromia (or Chiliodromia). The small harbor Patitiri is the seaport of the island and has a ferry connection with Volos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Thessaloniki.
